Marriage and long-term committed relationships are hard. We’ve heard that our entire lives. But most of us haven’t heard that what actually destroys love and trust in marriage tends to be the stuff we’re not paying any attention to.

Good, smart, well-intentioned people who love one another and want to be together routinely find themselves in painful, stressful, conflict-heavy relationships. Often no one is even doing anything most of us would describe as bad. And there’s the rub. You don’t have to be bad or do anything “wrong” in order for your words and actions to result in pain and trust erosion for your relationship partner.

That’s where relationship coaching can help. Your habits—your default-setting behavior and choices—may result in occasionally painful, accidentally trust-eroding moments between the two of you. Having the support of others can help us make better choices. And that’s what a coach provides—support, motivation and encouragement.

My work is about eliminating our blind spots, about learning how to truly see how our everyday actions affect others, and how to develop key mindfulness habits that can fundamentally change how we show up in our most important relationships, ultimately achieving a life of connection, peace, and contentment.

About Individual 1-on-1 Coaching

This is personal, intensive work to build new relational skills and habits.

1-on-1 coaching is useful for repairing disconnection and trust erosion in marriage or long-term relationships, as well as for processing divorce or a bad break up and readying ourselves for future relationships and effective co-parenting.

Our goal is to be the best partner we can be within our marriage or committed partnership. We will meet as often or as little as you want. This is a voluntary activity. But I’m in the mindfulness and habit-formation business, so some semblance of sticktoitiveness and consistency is required if you expect to have positive results. Time and practice yields consistency. Positive relationship changes do not happen overnight. They happen through consistent application of healthy relationship habits which bring about repair, safety, connection, and above all—trust.

When you work with me as your coach, we get intentional about mindset, about habits, about personality types, about deciphering the words and actions of our spouse/romantic partners, about empathy, and about finding new ways to communicate effectively and reduce instances of conflict within our homes and relationships.

What You Get

  • You and me, working together to find opportunities to improve your life’s most painful and frustrating relationship problems.
  • Learn new things about yourself and about your spouse/romantic partner, develop more clarity about what your partner is asking for during your frustrating conversations and arguments, and emerge stronger and confident that you can navigate your relationship more effectively.
  • No commitment is required. You will schedule the meetings on my calendar on the days and times most convenient for you. Though please consider that consistency is the key to forming new habits (and restoring trust in your relationship), so meeting consistently for at least four or five sessions is recommended.
  • In addition to our scheduled calls, clients have access to me in the event of a particularly difficult or stressful personal situation. If you feel alone or as if you don’t know who to talk to, I’ll make every effort to be there, and together we’ll get through whatever it is.

How It Works

  • Meetings take place via video conference (which take place on the Zoom platform. You can create a free Zoom account here.) You do not have to be on video if you don’t want to be.
  • I accept Stripe payments (payment is required while booking).
  • We will meet as much or as little as you want. It’s entirely up to you.

About Group with Matthew Fray

Adult relationships are hard. And what makes them hard tends to not be the things we discuss comfortably and openly around the dinner table, or the watercooler at work, or sometimes even with our friends and family. It can be lonely and miserable trying to navigate the emotionally high-stakes world of marriage, committed partnership, parenting, dating, etc.

With our new Group, we’re building a community, with the goal and hope of changing this condition for as many people as would like to be a part of it. This is an opportunity to meet with others, hear their stories, share your own, and collectively learn relationship skills and grow to be the best partners, parents, friends, siblings, teammates, coworkers, and neighbors we can be.

There will be multiple Zoom meetings per week which Group members are invited to join as convenience and schedules allow. There is an exclusive community on Discord which you’ll be invited to join for live interaction with me and other Group members.

I will email you within 24-48 hours of you joining Group with the information you’ll need to join our meetings and, if you’d like, our Discord server.

What You Get

  • A supportive community of people who are committed to improving their relationships.
  • Multiple weekly opportunities to participate as much or as little as is convenient for you.
  • A safe space to share with an experienced relationship coach facilitating conversation.

How It Works

  • Meetings take place via video conference (which take place on the Zoom platform. You can create a free Zoom account here.) You do not have to be on video if you don’t want to be.
  • I accept Stripe payments (payment is required while booking).
  • We will have multiple set meeting times for Group, and as a member you can join as many or as few as you’d like.
  • Some meetings will be reserved for men only, and the others will be mixed. (If there’s demand for a women’s-only group, we’ll address it, but this feels like the best way to start as I don’t think I’m the most appropriate choice to lead a women’s-only group.)
  • You will never be pressured to share your personal information or sensitive details of your private life with others or me. You’ll simply be invited to.
